Our Approach

How we work at Nurturing Relationships

Empathy

Before we challenge patterns or explore change, we first seek to understand what you’re experiencing in the context of your life.

We honor your values, culture, and background. We do not assume or judge anything about your circumstances. We offer compassion and want you to feel seen, heard, and understood – especially in difficult moments.

Education

We help you understand why you do what you do. We offer psychoeducation and insights that help you make sense of your behaviors and those of others.

Understanding why things happen helps us provide empathy for ourselves, navigate the moment, and live with intentionality.

Curiosity

Sometimes, even with all the hard work we’re doing, we still find ourselves stuck. Together, we’ll peek into corners of your life to uncover the source of what’s keeping you from your goals.

As we start to notice your constraints, we’ll support you in finding ways to be seen and heard. And we’ll give you the resources and connections to make it through. Whether it’s medical or school support, yoga, meditation, nutrition, basic needs – or other avenues for your healing – we’ll tend to you as a whole person, within the systems that surround you.

Community

We believe healing doesn’t happen in isolation. In a similar spirit, Nurturing Relationships invests in connections and referrals throughout the Evanston community to create a greater network of support for you, in your own neighborhood.

We meet you where you are

On The Journal

Some recent reflections from our founder Katelyn Easter, LMFT

How do I help my child when they are worrying?

Worries don’t just live in the mind. They can show up in the body, especially for kids who may feel their anxiety before they can name it.
